The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs) have been released and should be a wake-up call for all of us. The new guidelines offer four principles for moving forward on a more healthful path: (1) follow a healthy dietary pattern at every life stage, (2) eat a diet full of nutrient-dense food and beverages, (3) stay within calorie limits, and (4) limit foods and beverages high in added sugars, saturated fat and sodium. These guidelines are even more important now that we know that those afflicted by diet-related chronic diseases are most at risk for the worst COVID-19 outcomes.
