The numbers may vary but the facts are real. We waste food! It’s estimated we waste between 30 and 40% of the food supply or nearly 40 million tons of food in the United States every year. Breaking down the numbers, that is equal to 80 billion pounds of food or approximately 219 pounds of waste per person. Food waste is not only a burden on our environment but when food is tossed aside, so too are opportunities for economic growth, healthier communities and overall progress on closing the gap of food insecurity. The latest issue of The AgriNutrition Edge Report looks at this issue and what we can do at home to get serious about food waste.
With a nod to National Ag Day and Women’s History Month, this issue also celebrates the influence women have had and are continuing to have in the agriculture world.
And as we enter a season of Easter egg hunts and spring brunches, we look at the nutritional benefits of the incredible egg.
