Holstein cows approaching water sourceIt’s National Dairy Month and an important time to remember that today, more than ever, dairy farmers are committed to providing quality care for their animals to ensure the best product is produced in the most sustainable way. Since 2008, the dairy industry has been at the forefront of sustainability efforts with better technology and animal science practices making the difference in animal care and product safety. This issue of The AgriNutrition Edge Report looks at these efforts, as well as a developing trend of Americans consuming insects. Insects are an excellent source of protein and recent studies show they may also be a good source of antioxidants.

The issue wraps up with a link to listen to my recent webinar “Where Does Nutrition Fit in the Sustainability Equation?” which looks at the impact of diet on our environment and the conflicts between the “haves” and the “have nots” when it comes to food availability and accessibility for all. One continuing education credit available for RDNs and NDTRs.
