While the mountain of headlines could have easily amassed a multitude of blogs, I let my feet attack the mountains and my fellow colleagues address the never-ending food and ag issues. Headlines can make our heads spin and challenge us to think differently. But it’s often the basics of life and personal connections that mean the most and can make the greatest contributions without a headline. This summer I was reminded of that fact.

So, as summer quickly fades into fall colors, football, harvest and food, let’s remember, it’s the basics of food safety, prevention and family connections that can have the greatest impact on our health. It’s National Food Safety Month so read on how we can offset our concern with confidence. And even though the temperatures are cooling down, tick season is still red hot which can be a serious barrier to red meat. Finally, take time to gather family and friends around the table for conversation and better health to celebrate National Family Meal Month.
