Late Summer 2026: Your Plate Can Change the Food System

Fruits and vegetables on a wood tableWelcome back! Or perhaps, it’s me reintroducing myself to the once “monthly” newsletter. Over the past several months, as headlines have swirled within the everchanging food, agriculture and nutrition environment, I have valued the colleagues that have written so eloquently about the challenges to our norm as well as opportunities in this ever-changing environment.

While I had words stirring in my head, I had to keep the focus on my emerging podcast, Rooted & Restless (please subscribe) and challenging myself with new learning experiences from North Carolina and Washington, D.C., to St. Louis and Sacramento. Travel included attendance at American Society of Nutrition meetings, hands-on experiences at a sponsored produce field day and personal visits to Colorado orchards.

In this edition, I’m sharing a blog I wrote for the Women in Agriculture (WIA) website, highlighting some of the insights that will be shared with the WIA Summit audience later this month; insights on MSG as part of my work as an MSGdish blogger; and a Food Conservation Challenge from the Center of Food Conversation & Waste Reduction! It was a crazy busy summer … and now falling into college football season!
