March is always full of “madness” — from college basketball to the last flurry of winter weather as signs of spring appear! During March we also celebrate the impact of women in history, National Ag Week and National Nutrition Month® (NNM). And there is a connection! While women have long been part of the family farm, there are now 1.2 million female farmers and ranchers in the United States making an impact. Likewise, it was a group of visionary women in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1917, who committed to help the government improve public health and nutrition during World War I, and founded the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the creator of National Nutrition Month®. This year’s NNM theme appropriately blends the connection of agriculture and nutrition as we recognize what we eat extends “Beyond the Table.” Enjoy my insights as we bid March farewell. After all, it’s only appropriate that I acknowledge National Procrastination Week … a couple of weeks late!
