With the rapid rise of plant-based meat alternatives in the market, the question of “what’s in the meat” has become a hot topic. For consumers who desire to eat healthier, plant-based meats may seem to be a natural fit. But, is this a “healthy” choice or simply a “health halo”? This issue of The AgriNutrition Edge Report includes findings from my recent review of the nutritional contents of plant-based meats and how these products stack up against traditional lean beef.
This issue also highlights an article that looks at what we are missing most during the pandemic, three trends on how we are coping with new challenges and the unexpected “silver linings” of these times. Finally, I invite colleagues to join me at the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics’ Virtual Meeting on Oct. 17-20, and preview a session I will be co-presenting and those I will be moderating.
